While I was waiting for my hanger to
be vacant I started working on
setting up shop.

Theresa helped me build two 8' x 4'
workbenches.
Placed end to end, a whopping
16' long.
I found plans for a 30" x 30" portable
workbench in one of my kit builder
books.  I thought the idea sounded
real handy... a bench for power tools
that can be rolled out of the way.

I chose to build a 48" x 48" version.
This is a view of the bottom all
framed up.
Here I am framing up the drill press
table.
Sizing up the drill press table.

Notice the 4" x 4" piers for additional
strength in the center.
Tyler is checking my work.

Drill press table is sheeted.

Working on the upper table.
Wood working all finished.
Time to trial fit the tools.
The drill press fits great.
On the back row is the Maytag wire
wheel, 8" bench grinder and combo
belt/disk sander.

The Drill Dr. box is placed where the
band saw will be located when I find
one.
Plenty of storage space below, and
the entire bench is on casters so it
can be rolled out of the way when
not in use.
Everything came out just as
planned.  The height of the tools will
keep me from having to hunch over
tool much.

I have another 4" x 4" that I need to
cut to size.  Several pieces will be
placed under the drill press in order
to raise the table height a bit.
Theresa helped me drag the old
engine stand out of the weeds back
by the barn.

The casters were seized up, so I
replaced them.  Rolls nice and
smooth now.
A panoramic shot of the workshop.

I made this with a series of shots,
which didn't line up exactly right.
A view from outside with the doors
open.

What is that on the ground?

Never mind, had to be there.
March 1, 2009

All moved in and ready to start
considering where to get supplies.

A little more reading and research
and we should be ready to get going.

A little cold outside (~40), but not too
cold for a celebratory cold drink!
