Christmas Blizzard of 2009
The weather forecast had been predicting snowfall for several days... to begin on Christmas Eve and continue through Christmas morning.  It rained much of
the morning on the 24th, but as the freezing line passed through (around 2:00PM), the rain changed to sleet, then ice, then to blowing snow by 4:00 or so.  It
was white out conditions for the rest of the evening with winds of 20-30mph and gusts up to 50mph.  For those familiar with our house... we could see our
dusk to dawn light outside (~50 feet away), but at times we could not see our neighbors light (~300 feet away).  The snow had stopped by Christmas morning
(6:00AM... yes, we were woke up early), but we had blown areas of just a couple of inches on the west and north sides of the house and drifts as deep as 36
inches on the down wind sides.  The wind blown surface looked like a white desert and miniature dunes were everywhere.  We could tell right away that we
weren't able to get out if we wanted to, and from the radio reports, most others were in the same or worse conditions.  Record snowfall amounts were
recorded across much of the state.  It will take a day or two to dig out of this one.  Oh well, at least it isn't ice.

Ol Piet sure looks, acts and sounds a lot like a Husky.  Those that are familiar with the breed will see a lot of similarities in some of these photos.
